The incident occurred on Monday, March 30, at approximately 3:50 PM, when officers with the Monroeville Police Department arrested Ammarin Lada Tunstall, 35, a resident of Monroeville. According to an official press release, Tunstall became unresponsive at some point during the arrest. Emergency personnel on the scene administered Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, a nasal spray medication used to revive individuals experiencing an opioid overdose. Tunstall was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
However, footage circulating on social media appears to show officers dragging Tunstall's body, raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding his death and whether the official account accurately reflects what took place.
At the request of the Monroeville Police Department, the SBI launched its investigation the same day. Tunstall's body has since been handed over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a formal autopsy.
Authorities have stated that no further details will be released while the investigation remains active. Once concluded, all findings will be forwarded to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office for review.
