Dallas Community Mourns 23-Year-Old Woma, Aya Knox Killed After Being Struck and Dragged by SUV

A 23-year-old Texas woman, Aya Knox, died early Saturday, November 15, after an SUV struck her in downtown Dallas and dragged her along the road while she was trapped underneath the vehicle. Officers arrived at the 1500 block of Elm Street around 4:40 a.m., where they found Knox pinned beneath the SUV. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue but later died from her injuries.

Officials say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The case is still under active investigation. A witness who recorded the aftermath reported seeing Knox trip into the roadway before being hit. A long trail of blood marked the path the SUV traveled, according to WFAA.

Loved ones described Knox—often called the “Queen of Dallas”—as someone whose family meant everything to her. She worked at a medical clinic and aspired to become a nurse. Her aunt, Nakia Clay, said the loss feels “traumatic” and “surreal,” and that the family is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

“Family meant everything to Aya,” Clay said. “We want the world to see the incredible young woman she was and how deeply she was loved.”

According to her Facebook profile, Knox was born in Dallas and attended Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland. Dallas authorities have not yet said whether the driver will face any charges.
