A 19-year-old Detroit woman was stabbed multiple times inside a Kids Foot Locker at Southland Center Mall in Taylor, Michigan, after a confrontation broke out when another shopper’s card was declined at the register.
According to victim Suniya Jenkins, she was inside the store on Wednesday, November 5, when a woman became enraged after her payment failed to go through. Someone in line allegedly made a remark calling the woman a “broke b—,” which caused the suspect to lash out. Jenkins maintains she was not the one who made the comment, but the woman targeted her anyway.
The suspect — who was at the store with children — allegedly brandished a kitchen knife and stabbed Jenkins in the neck, stomach, thigh, and once more during the altercation. Jenkins later learned she had sustained a punctured lung.
“I think it was unfair to me to get stabbed,” Jenkins told WJBK. “As the argument got verbal, she put her hand in her purse and said she was going to shoot me. I didn’t even realize I had been stabbed until after the physical altercation.”
Police responded and arrested the woman, who is expected to face felonious assault and weapons-related charges. Her identity has not yet been released.
Despite her injuries, Jenkins says she intends to pursue charges but expressed sympathy for the suspect’s children.
“I am going to press charges, but it saddens me because I don’t want her taken away from her kids. I truly don’t,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins is expected to make a full recovery.
