A 65-year-old Florida man, Scot Thompson, has been arrested in New York for allegedly shooting and killing his two older brothers during a weekend hunting trip that turned violent. Authorities say Thompson fatally shot 69-year-old David Thompson and 70-year-old Mark Thompson at a hunting cabin in the town of Allen after the three became involved in a physical altercation.

Before the double homicide was discovered, one of the brothers reportedly called police. Responding officers arrived at the cabin to find both men dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the confrontation, though the exact cause of the fight remains unclear.

After the shooting, Scot fled the scene in David’s vehicle, prompting a regional alert. He was later tracked down by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police, who took him into custody. He now faces two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal use of a firearm.

Family members say the tragedy was unexpected. John Sweeney, brother-in-law to one of the victims, revealed that Scot called David’s wife, Jane, to apologize for killing her husband. Both Scot and David lived in Florida, while Mark was from Connecticut.

Autopsies are pending, and Thompson remains in the Allegany County Jail as the investigation continues.
