OPELOUSAS, La. — Two parents have been arrested after the death of their 5-month-old daughter, Alora Faye Broussard, who authorities say suffered severe abuse and neglect.
According to Opelousas Police, the infant was taken to a local hospital where medical staff determined she had multiple traumatic injuries, including broken ribs, a severed lower spine, and signs of extreme dehydration and malnourishment. The child later died from those injuries.
Police identified the parents as Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, who authorities say had exclusive custody of the baby since her birth.
On November 3, Broussard turned himself in and was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. Fontenot has also been taken into custody. The specific charges have not yet been publicly released, but investigators say the case involves severe child abuse leading to death.
Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc described the case as deeply disturbing:
“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse. This case is in its early stages, and our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail. We ask the public for patience, cooperation, and assistance in helping us pursue justice.”
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible as evidence continues to be reviewed.
