A tight-knit Pasadena, Maryland community is grieving after a married couple was shot and killed inside their home in what police are calling a targeted double homicide.
Anne Arundel County Police responded to a residence on the 1700 block of Twickenham Road around 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, where they discovered 56-year-old William “Charlie” Hayes and 54-year-old Jenna “Jeanna” Hayes with fatal gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect: 61-year-old Anthony Louis Reyes of Nottingham, Maryland, a man who was personally acquainted with the couple. Someone inside the home had called 911, leading police to Reyes.
Several hours later, around 6:27 p.m., officers located Reyes driving a black Toyota Camry with out-of-state plates in Hanover. When police attempted to stop him, he fled, triggering a pursuit that ended near 97 South and Quarterfield Road. Reyes reportedly resisted arrest, causing minor injuries to one officer before he was subdued. He now faces first-degree murder charges.
Police say an adult granddaughter lived with the couple but was not home during the attack. Authorities also confirmed that Reyes had both personal and business ties to the victims, though the motive remains unclear.
The Hayes couple owned CW Hayes Home Improvement and were well-respected in their community. Their deaths have sparked an outpouring of condolences online. Anne Arundel Police Chief Amal Awad described Long Point as a peaceful, family-oriented waterfront neighborhood with virtually no serious crime.
“It’s terribly horrific, especially right before the holiday season,” Awad said. “This is a very close-knit community, and you can see that from how they’ve already begun decorating for the holidays.”
