A 15-year-old Port St. Lucie girl, identified as Amy Chance, is facing felony charges after police bodycam footage captured her striking a patrol vehicle with a metal shovel during an incident earlier this month.
Police say officers responded to a disturbance call on November 3 when they encountered Chance standing in the middle of the street holding the shovel. Body-worn camera video shows the teen hitting the hood of a police cruiser several times as officers arrived on scene.
Officers exited their vehicle and repeatedly ordered Chance to drop the shovel. One officer drew a Taser while instructing her to put the tool down. The video shows Chance eventually complying—dropping the shovel—before briefly walking away and making a hand gesture toward the officers.
She was ordered to the ground and taken into custody without further resistance.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the damage to the patrol car was estimated at over $1,200, leading to a felony criminal mischief charge.
Authorities did not disclose what led to the initial disturbance or what prompted the teen to strike the vehicle.
“Regardless of age, intentionally damaging property will result in arrest,” the department said in a statement.
