Silas Sampson Street Racer Fleeing Cops Plows Into Gay Bar, Killing 4 and Injuring 11 at Bradley’s in Tampa’s Ybor City, Florida

Tampa, Florida A late-night tragedy unfolded in Ybor City after a high-speed police chase ended with a vehicle crashing into Bradley’s on 7th, a well-known LGBTQ+ bar in Tampa’s historic entertainment district. Four people have died and eleven others were injured after the car slammed into the bar’s outdoor patio area early Friday morning.

Authorities have identified the driver as 22-year-old Silas Sampson of Dade City. Tampa Police say the incident began when officers observed Sampson driving recklessly near I-275 at around 12:30 a.m. A police aviation unit later spotted him street racing and accelerating into the downtown corridor.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using a PIT maneuver, but Sampson managed to break away, continuing at high speed toward Ybor City. Moments later, he lost control of the car and crashed directly into Bradley’s patio, where dozens of patrons were gathered.

The scene quickly turned chaotic.
Three victims died at the bar, and a fourth passed away after being taken to the hospital. Several others remain hospitalized, with at least one person in critical condition. Officials say all of the victims were adults, and names are being withheld until families have been notified.

“This was a devastating and senseless loss, caused by reckless driving,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said during a Friday press conference. “We are heartbroken for the victims and their loved ones.”

Sampson is now in custody and has been charged with vehicular homicide, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.

Bradley’s on 7th is considered a cornerstone of Tampa’s LGBTQ+ nightlife — a space known for drag shows, dancing, and a strong sense of community belonging. The crash has left many residents shaken.

“This is more than just a bar. It’s home for so many of us,” said Esme Russell, one of Bradley’s longtime co-hosts. “The loss we feel today is heavy and deeply personal.”

Memorial candles, flowers, and messages of support have already begun to gather outside the venue as the community mourns together.
