A disturbing video circulating on social media has sparked widespread outrage after showing a man approaching a homeless individual and pepper-spraying him in the face without provocation.
The incident took place late Monday outside a Chevron gas station located at State Highway 249 and Bammel North Houston Road in Houston, Texas.
The footage, originally shared by community news platform Grizzy’s Hood News, shows the suspect walking toward a dumpster where the victim, identified as Jonathan Scarber, was sitting. The suspect then sprays Scarber directly in the face before running back to a waiting vehicle. In the background, voices can be heard laughing, adding to public anger over the attack.
Community members and online users have since identified the suspect as Xavier Martinez, who is believed to be a barber. Calls have intensified for authorities to take action, with many expressing concern over the cruel and unprovoked nature of the assault.
Local advocates have also highlighted the video as an example of the ongoing mistreatment faced by people experiencing homelessness, urging the public to condemn such behavior and support vulnerable individuals in their communities.
Law enforcement has not yet released an official statement regarding any potential charges or investigation.
