Teen Suspect Flees to U.S. After Brutal Killing of Community Dog in Brazil

Enzo Zampieri Igor has reportedly fled to the United States after being implicated, alongside Pedro Kowalski and Evandro Daux Mussi Boabaid, in the killing of a community dog named Orelha in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

According to authorities, the group of teenagers brutally attacked Orelha at Praia Brava in Florianópolis, allegedly driving a nail into the dog’s head. The Civil Police of Santa Catarina also revealed that the same group is suspected of attempting to drown another community dog, Caramelo, at the same beach. Witnesses reported seeing the youths throw the dog into the sea, though Caramelo managed to escape and was later adopted.

Orelha’s death sparked nationwide outrage and prompted a broader investigation. Police are now examining not only the teenagers’ actions, but also possible involvement by adults accused of intimidating witnesses. The case has expanded to include allegations of attempted animal killing beyond Orelha’s death.

Orelha had lived for nearly a decade at Praia Brava and was widely regarded as a local mascot. Residents and business owners regularly fed and cared for him, along with other community dogs in the area.

The case surfaced on the 16th after residents reported Orelha missing. Two days later, one of his caretakers found him gravely injured in a wooded area. He was taken to a veterinary clinic, but due to the severity of his injuries, veterinarians made the decision to humanely euthanize him.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities pursue accountability in the case.
