Reko Escobar Gonzales Shot and Killed Just 5 Days After His Birthday on Chicago's 79th and St. Lawrence

Chicago Police are investigating a deadly double shooting that took place late last night in the Chatham neighborhood, claiming the life of a man identified by the community as Reko Escobar Gonzales, just five days after his birthday.

Officers from the Chicago Police Department and Cook County Sheriff's Police responded to calls of two people shot at approximately 10:39 PM near 79th and St. Lawrence. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds.

Reko Escobar Gonzales, 30, was found outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the leg and was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead. A second victim, a 31-year-old man, was found inside a nearby apartment with a gunshot wound to the neck and is currently listed in good condition.

According to Chicago Police, the victims had been inside an apartment with a group of males when a verbal dispute broke out and quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, an individual produced a firearm, opened fire, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

No suspects are currently in custody. Area 2 Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The community is mourning the loss of Reko, remembering him fondly just days after celebrating another year of his life.
