WICHITA, Kansas Former FOX2 St. Louis morning news anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death at their Wichita home. Mock has reportedly claimed that the act was done in self-defense.

According to the Wichita Police Department, officers responded to a stabbing report around 8 a.m. Friday at a residence located in the 1500 block of East Crowley Street. When they arrived, they found Mock outside the home, while Avers was discovered inside, lying in bed with multiple stab wounds.

Avers was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police confirmed.

Authorities said Mock was also treated at a hospital before being booked into Sedgwick County Jail, where she now faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with her mother’s death.

Public employment records show that Mock worked as a morning anchor and reporter for FOX2 St. Louis from March 2011 to February 2015. Her LinkedIn profile lists her current role as a data management consultant, a position she’s held since December 2019. It remains unclear why she left her broadcasting career.

Her mother, Anita Avers, was a licensed marriage and family therapist with more than two decades of experience at Wichita Counseling Professionals. She specialized in helping adults cope with depression, anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and relationship issues, including infidelity and divorce.

Police have not yet disclosed what led to the deadly confrontation or whether there had been prior reports of domestic disputes between the two. Details about Mock’s first court appearance have yet to be released.
