VIDEO:Georgia Man Arrested After Fatal Stabbing of Teen Outside Walmart Over Shopping Cart Dispute

CHATHAM COUNTY, Georgia — A 48-year-old man identified as Delano Middleton has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old J.T. Schroeder outside a Walmart on Highway 80 in Chatham County.

According to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), the altercation occurred on Thursday, October 23, after Middleton accused the teenager of kicking his shopping cart. The argument quickly escalated, and witnesses reported seeing Middleton stab Schroeder multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders rushed Schroeder to a nearby hospital, where he was placed on life support. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, according to WJCL News.

In the hours following the attack, friends and loved ones gathered at the hospital, wearing shirts, bracelets, and stickers to honor Schroeder’s memory as they said their goodbyes. His father revealed that the teen was an organ donor, and a hero’s walk was held on Friday before his organs were donated to save other lives.

Court documents show that Delano Middleton is a repeat offender, with prior arrests for aggravated assault, battery, and weapons-related charges in 2021 and 2023.

He is currently being held at the Chatham County Detention Center, as investigators continue to look into the deadly confrontation.
