New details have emerged regarding a tragic double murder-suicide that took place Monday evening in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
According to investigators, 24-year-old Sean Rivera is believed to have fatally shot his girlfriend’s mother and her mother’s boyfriend before taking his own life.
Authorities responded to the home located at 411 Rathbun Street just before 7 p.m. on Monday after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
A teenager, believed to be Rivera’s girlfriend, ran from the home to a nearby business seeking help.
“She’s yelling there’s a shooting, my mom, all kinds of stuff like that, she’s scared, she’s like ‘hide me,’” said Dominique Domingo, an employee at Samaritan Smoke Shop, who assisted the girl when she came in for help.
“She had blood all over her hands and all over her clothes,” Domingo recalled.
Police have not yet released the names of the two other victims as they work to notify additional family members. They have also not indicated a motive at this time, but detectives confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities say they are also providing support services to the surviving teen, who is considered a key witness in the case.
More updates are expected as investigators continue to review evidence and interview individuals connected to those involved.
