Two sisters from Orange, New Jersey tragically lost their lives on Thanksgiving after running back into their burning home to rescue their father, who uses a wheelchair and has dementia.
The fire started around 5 p.m. at the family’s residence on Mosswood Avenue. According to relatives, 49-year-old Frantzia Fleury and 42-year-old Pojanee Fleury re-entered the house in an attempt to save their father but did not make it out. He survived and is currently hospitalized with smoke inhalation.
Family members described the sisters as compassionate and deeply devoted. Frantzia was a former Marine who later became an X-ray technician, while Pojanee had recently launched her own media company. Both women were mothers.
Neighbors and friends said the family had long been a cherished part of the community, known for kindness, reliability, and faith. Seven other occupants of the home managed to escape the fire.
