Valerie Schoeck, Cambridge, Massachusetts woman living in NYC killed by wrong way driver in West Village. Was engaged to be married.

A 27-year-old woman who had recently been building her career in New York City and was set to be married next year was tragically killed Friday morning after being struck by a wrong-way driver in Greenwich Village.

The victim, Valerie Schoeck, originally from Cambridge, Massachusetts, had been living in the West Village while working as a vice president at Argot Partners, LLC.

The collision occurred just after 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Morton Street and Seventh Avenue South. Authorities say the driver of a black GMC Savana van exited a nearby parking garage, made a wrong-way turn onto Morton Street — which is a one-way roadway — and struck Schoeck as she was crossing the street.

Schoeck was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Schoeck was engaged to Ross Barlow, with their wedding planned for June next year.

A family member, commenting publicly, described the grief as “unimaginable,” calling Schoeck an "extraordinary, gorgeous young lady."

According to her LinkedIn profile, Schoeck had joined Argot Partners as a junior associate in 2020, rising through the company to become Vice President.

She previously earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the College of Charleston.

The driver, a 61-year-old man with New Jersey plates, stayed at the scene following the crash and has not yet been charged, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
