One of the victims injured in the devastating car crash at the Lao New Year celebration in Louisiana has been transferred to a hospital in Baton Rouge, where she is being treated for 12 broken ribs and a broken right arm, according to information shared by community members.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM near the corner of Savannakhet Street and Melancon Road in New Iberia, Louisiana, during the Lao New Year festivities. A vehicle plowed into a crowd of celebrants, injuring at least 15 people, several of whom were reported to be in critical condition.

The driver, identified as 57-year-old Todd Landry, was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges including driving while impaired, careless operation, possession of an open container, and 18 counts of first-degree negligent injuring. Authorities have indicated that the crash is not believed to have been intentional.

In total, 13 individuals were transported to area hospitals, with two of the most critically injured requiring airlift transport for emergency care. In the aftermath of the tragedy, festival organizers made the decision to cancel the remainder of the evening's scheduled music programming and suspended alcohol sales for the rest of the event.

The community continues to come to terms with the incident as the injured receive medical care.
