The Atlanta Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a woman was discovered shot to death inside a parked SUV in southeast Atlanta in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call at Springside Place at approximately 1:23 AM, where they found a 36-year-old woman inside a Range Rover suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Homicide Unit commander, investigators believe someone fired into the vehicle from outside, striking the woman several times. Authorities are currently in the early stages of the investigation and are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, including determining whether anyone else was present in the vehicle at the time.
Investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage in the surrounding area and have identified a general route they believe was taken prior to the incident. Detectives plan to backtrack along that route to gather additional information and establish a clearer timeline of events.
Community tips have been highlighted as a critical component of the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Atlanta's Crimestoppers line at 404-577-TIPS, emphasizing that all tips are completely anonymous.
