A social media post by Jim Whorley has drawn public outrage after he appeared to mock the tragic death of Angel Rojas, a young father who was fatally crushed while working at a Dallas funeral home.
Whorley wrote on Facebook, “The bright side is ICE won’t have to deport.”
According to reports, 24-year-old Angel Rojas was working at Restland Funeral Home, Cemetery, and Crematory on October 20 when a large concrete burial vault he was handling suddenly fell, trapping him from the waist down.
Family members said Rojas managed to call for help and even left a final voicemail for his wife, Natalie Rojas, after failing to reach her directly.
“He told me he wanted to go home,” Natalie said tearfully. “He told me he loved me and wanted to go home.”
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and spent over 45 minutes using hydraulic tools and air bags — the kind often used in vehicle rescues — to free him. Rojas was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Rojas had recently joined the funeral home to provide for his wife and their 3-year-old son, Angel Noel, who will turn four next month.
The grieving family has accused the funeral home of gross negligence, questioning why Rojas was allowed to operate heavy machinery alone.
“There’s no way on earth this man should have been operating that equipment by himself,” said Matthew Graham, the family’s attorney. “He shouldn’t have been handling anything that heavy without assistance.”
As of now, the funeral home has not issued a public statement, and authorities confirm that the investigation is ongoing.
