PortMiami, Florida – Federal authorities have launched an investigation after a passenger was found dead aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship, which docked in PortMiami on Saturday morning following a Caribbean voyage carrying nearly 4,000 guests.
The individual has been identified on social media as 18-year-old Anna Kepner, of Titusville, Florida. Kepner was reportedly traveling on the cruise ahead of her expected high school graduation in May. Her family, speaking to ABC News, described her as a young woman with clear goals, noting that she had recently taken the entrance test to join the military and was planning a career centered on service.
Investigators were seen removing a body from the vessel, which was later transported to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death, and the FBI has not confirmed whether the case involves foul play.
However, claims circulating widely on social media allege that the teen was “found wrapped in a bed sheet under her bed with stab wounds.” These details have not been confirmed by law enforcement, and officials have urged the public to avoid drawing conclusions until the investigation progresses.
The incident quickly gained national attention online, where many have questioned whether the teen may have been the victim of a homicide. The FBI has acknowledged the case and confirmed that it is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Carnival Cruise Line released a statement through CBS Miami, saying:
“Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI.”
The cruise company added that its staff is assisting federal investigators.
Kepner’s family is said to be struggling with the sudden loss, with relatives recalling her plans and ambitions just weeks before the trip.
As of now, the investigation remains ongoing. Additional details will be released as authorities complete forensic and interview findings.
