VIDEO:Alabama Christian School Teacher Arrested After Viral Video Shows Child Beaten With Belt

A Cottage Hill Christian Academy teacher in Mobile, Alabama has been arrested after a disturbing video went viral showing her striking her child more than 20 times with a belt.

Nicole Staples, 44, was taken into custody and charged with “willful abuse of a child under 18.” She is expected to appear in court on Friday for a bond hearing. School officials confirmed she has since been fired.

Authorities began investigating after the video sparked outrage across social media. In the footage, a woman—believed to be Staples—can be heard yelling profanities at a young boy for not completing his chores. She is seen beating him repeatedly with a belt as he screams and pleads for her to stop. At one point, she violently drags the child by his hair, throwing him to the floor and lifting him up the same way.

It remains unclear who recorded the incident, when it occurred, or why the person chose to post it online instead of contacting law enforcement directly.

Cottage Hill Christian Academy released a statement expressing shock and emphasizing its commitment to student safety. School leaders said they were alerted to concerns about Staples’ off-campus conduct on November 19, 2025. Although the incident occurred at her home, the school immediately removed her from duty and cooperated with police and child welfare authorities.

Following the law enforcement investigation, officers determined that Staples had engaged in improper conduct unrelated to school activities, leading to her arrest and termination.

Head of School Chris Brazell reaffirmed the institution’s stance, saying the academy prioritizes the wellbeing and safety of children above all else and will continue working with relevant agencies as the case progresses.
