Kevin Spacey says he is effectively homeless after spending millions defending himself against sexual assault allegations that derailed his career eight years ago. The 66-year-old Oscar winner revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that he recently lost his longtime Baltimore home and now relies on hotels and Airbnbs while chasing work.
Spacey, who was accused in 2017 of sexually assaulting four men during his time at London’s Old Vic Theatre, faced nine criminal charges — all of which he denied. He was acquitted in 2023 and previously won a civil case brought by actor Anthony Rapp in 2022. Despite the courtroom victories, he says the financial fallout has been devastating.
“The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical,” Spacey said. “Everything has gone out, and very little has come in.”
Now living out of suitcases, Spacey says all his belongings are in storage while he tries to rebuild his career. He insists major industry figures are quietly supportive and believes that one high-profile endorsement — from a director like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino — could open the doors again.
Spacey has a handful of projects underway, including directing and acting in the sci-fi thriller Holiguards Saga — The Portal of Force. He is also performing a one-man show, “Kevin Spacey: Songs & Stories.”
Reflecting on the turmoil, Spacey said the last seven years have humbled him but also made him more grounded and grateful. Still, the question remains: even if Spacey is ready to return, is Hollywood ready to welcome him back?
